AFG Post-RT

About this trial

This study is for women who have been treated with radiotherapy for cancer of the vulva. Women who have undergone local radiotherapy to treat cancer of the vulva can experience both acute (short-term) and chronic (medium to long-term) side effects. These side effects include discomfort, pain, itching, dryness and changes to the quality and appearance of their skin. These symptoms vary in severity and, for some women, can be difficult to treat.

The purpose of this study is to trial a new treatment for these symptoms. Autologous fat grafting (or lipo-transfer) is a procedure that involves taking fat from a part of the body that is rich in fat (such as the flank for the buttocks region) and injecting part of this fat under the skin of the vulva.

There is evidence that autologous fat grafting can have regenerative and immunomodulatory effects. Through this study, we hope to find out whether autologous fat grafting can improve some of the chronic vulval side effects that women may experience following radiotherapy for vulval cancer.
