DSSG: October 2021

The DSSG meetings for Autumn 2021 are taking place on Friday October 22nd, with certain DSSG meetings taking place prior to this date (Head & Neck, Wed 20th Oct; GU/Gynae, Fri October 15th)

Cancer Trials Ireland members have been sent invites to individual DSSG meetings, and also the full agenda, including links/dial-in details to all meetings. Be advised that only members may attend DSSG meetings.

However, October 22nd features two meetings that can (in some circumstances) be attended by non-members. They are: 

1. Stakeholder session @ 16.15, Oct 22nd: “PPI from an investigator’s perspective”

This hour-long session will feature a presentation and Q&A from Dr Wendy Parelukar (Medical Oncologist) and Judy Needham (Patient Chair) both from the Canadian Clinical Trials Group. Dr Parelukar will describe the value of PPI to CCTG from an investigator’s point of view, and Judy will provide an evidence base for its effectiveness, including how their PPI activity has fed into increased accrual rates and grant awards. The session will be facilitate by Eibhlin Mulroe.

2. New Investigator’s Session @ 13.15, Oct 22nd: Dr Ciara McNevin, ‘Career Paths & Career Questions’

Dr McNevin will describe her route into medicine, by way of financial engineering in London & New York, before outlining the scope of her Wellcome Trust grant and how it came to be awarded, her research interests, and her questions about future training at home and abroad. 

NOTE: This session is open to members, and clinicians with an interest in research who may not be members of Cancer Trials Ireland. The session is not open to anyone not matching this description.

Spring Digest

The Digest for Autumn 2021 will be published approximately 24 hours in advance of October 22nd and will include study and site accrual figures as confirmed up until August 31st 2021.
